Kyle Dobiszewski pitched a fine 5 hitter and allowed only 1 real run even though the score shows 2 runs, more about that later. Unfortunately, Parsippany Hills' Marty Cabular pitched an even better game. Cabular faced only 23 batters over the 7 innings, just 2 more than the absolute minimum. He allowed only 2 hits and didn't walk a single batter. In fact, only once did the count get to 3 balls. Even more amazingly, the count only got to 2 balls on 5 of the 23 batters he faced. In addition, the Parsippany Hills defense played error free ball.

Parsippany Hills got their first run in the bottom of the sixth with a single, a stolen base and another single. Their 2nd run came in the 5th on an unusual call. The first batter drew a walk and then tried to steal 2nd base. Jeff Della Piazza had trouble getting the ball out of his glove and ultimately never threw down to 2nd base. Kevin McNeil faked a tag without the ball and the field umpire waved the runner on to 3rd. He claimed the fake tag was interference and the runner was entitled to advance a base. With the runner now on third and a 1-0 ball game the infield had play up to try to cutoff the run. The next batter hit a low pop up. It didn't even get to the outfield grass, but because Eric Smith was for far up he couldn't get back to make what would have been a very routine out. No one in the crowd had ever witnessed such an interference call before.
