Hit batters: Barber(1)
Scotch Plains' first batter hit a sizzling line drive for a single, but was caught stealing. A base on balls was followed by a routine fly to the outfield that was misjudged for a double, scoring one run. Another base on balls put two on with one out. A popup was followed by a fielder's choice ou and what had started out like a potential disaster produced only one run. In the bottom of the first Summit loaded the bases with two outs. Unfortunately the runner on first was hit by the next batter's ground ball and was called out to end the threat.

Summit came alive in the bottom of the third. The 3 consecutive singles by Eric Smith, Jeff Della Piazza and Brad Dolny drove in a run. Zach Barber followed with a double, driving in two more runs to give Summit a 3-1 lead. Barber was balked to third, but was thrown out in a suicide squeeze when the batter missed the bunt attempt.

Scotch Plains got a run in the fourth on an opening double, the runner advancing to third when the next batter was safe on a error. A sacrifice fly drove in the run. They tied the score in the fifth on a home run over the left field fence. Summit regained the lead in the fifth when Dolny doubled, Barber singled and Daren Apostolic hit a ball between the legs of the Scotch Plains shortstop.

For the second game in a row Smith went into the final inning with the lead only to be let down by the Summit defense. The first Scotch Plains batter in the 7th walked and was sacrificed to second. A routine fly to center was dropped for an error, putting men on first and second. An easy grounder to third was picked up cleanly, but the ball was dropped as the third baseman ran to touch the bag. The game would have been over without the miscues. Instead, the bases were loaded with only one out. A long single scored all three runners. No earned runs, but Scotch Plains had a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the 7th Summit went down 1-2-3 to end the game.
