Summit completely dominated the statistics yet the game was closer than you would expect because of a single run by Hillside just before the end of the 1st half. Hillside was down 14-0 after Summit scored with about 1 minute left in the half. Following the kickoff Hillside, who had been held to 40 yards rushing, burst out with a 62 yard TD run to throw cold water on what looked, to that point, like an easy victory.

Summit's 1st possession began on their 23 Yard Line. The opening play was a screen pass to Jeff Della Piazza which went for 17 yards. The drive included good runs by Della Piazza, Arthur Copperthite, and Pierce Talbot and passes to Todd Kaiser and Brad Dolny. All totaled Summit gained 82 yards in the drive, more than enough for a touchdown. However, two holding penalties thwarted a score. Fortunately, on the next possession Summit was not to be denied. The drive began when Dolny intercepted a pass on the Summit's 31 and returned it to the Summit 45 Yard Line. On the 1st play Della Piazza ripped off a 26 yard run. On the next play Copperthite gained 14 yards and Summit had a 1st down on the Hillside 15 Yard Line. Talbot moved it to the 5 Yard Line and 2 plays later Rob Schroeder ran it in from the 2 Yard Line. Summit stuffed Hillside following the kickoff and Summit got the ball back on the Summit 13 Yard Line. Summit moved the 87 yards in 15 plays and Schroeder punched it in from the 1 Yard Line. The longest gain of the drive was a 20 pass reception by Dolny. The 1st half closed with Hillside's stunning 62 yard TD run.

Summit's only score of the 2nd half came on Summit's third possession. The drive began on the Summit 18 Yard Line and ended with a 30 yard screen pass from Schroeder to Talbot, who benefited by a great block from Chris Dean.

Summit will meet West Essex next Saturday at Tatlock Field. West Essex defeated Caldwell 15-0.
