The game got off to a bad start when Summit turned the ball over on a fumble on their 2nd play. That gave Parsippany Hills the ball on Summit's 35 Yard Line. Seven plays later Parsippany Hills punched it in from the 3 Yard Line . The point after kick was wide but Parsippany Hills gave notice it wasn't going to be an easy victory for the Hilltoppers. Summit returned a short kickoff to the Summit 43 Yard Line. A pass to Brad Dolny put the ball on the Parsippany Hills 34. Two good runs by Jeff Della Piazza made it 1st and 10 at the 18. A pass to Dwayne Reid and a run by Arthur Copperthite moved it to the 8 Yard Line. A pair of Copperthite carries put the ball on the 2 Yard Line and Della Piazza carried it in for the score. Will Gruetzmacher kicked the extra point to put Summit ahead 7-6. On Summit's next possession the Hilltoppers mounted their best drive of the game, going from their 36 Yard Line to score in 15 plays. The drive was highlighted by the running of Della Piazza and Rob Schroeder as well as two key receptions by Dwayne Reid. Dolny scored on a 2 yard pass from Schroeder. In the closing minutes on the half Parsippany Hills threatened again. After they had gotten a 1st down on the Summit 31 Yard Line Todd Kaiser intercepted a Viking pass on the 1 Yard Line to end the drive.
Summit's only score of the second half came when Dwayne Reid fielded a Parsippany Hills punt on the 40 and ran 60 yards for the score to give Summit some breathing room at 21-6. Reid was able to get free with the aid of a great block by Chris Dean and some fine downfield Summit blocking. Rather than collapse, Parsippany Hills seemed to gain strength. They answered Summit with a 73 yard, 14 play, drive to move to within a TD of tying the game. The Hilltoppers were forced to punt on their next possession and Parsippany Hills started their final effort from their own 22 Yard Line. Four plays later they had a 1st down at Summit's 42 Yard Line. The Summit defense stiffened and when a 4th and 4 pass fell short Summit took over on their 36 Yard Line with about 3 minutes left in the game. Summit needed at least one 1st down in order to use up the Parsippany Hills time outs and run down the clock. Two carries by Della Piazza gave Summit a 3rd and 3 at Summit's 43. A pass to Dwayne Reid was complete for 4 yards and a 1st down. Three rushes by Copperthite and Della Piazza helped run out the clock and set up a Schroeder punt which was downed on the Parsippany Hills 11 with nine seconds left. A desperation pass was intercepted by Dwayne Reid to end the Game.
Penalties again hurt Summit when a holding call nullified a sensational 29 yard catch in the end zone by Todd Kaiser.
