Summit got off to a great start as Dwayne Reid hit his first two 3-point attempts. Wellington Smith added another 3 pointer and Dwight Reid contributed a FG and a free throw to give Summit a 14-9 1st quarter lead. Summit started the 2nd quarter with a 6-3 run to make the score 20-12. It looked like Chatham might be on the ropes. On Chatham's next possession Dwight Reid was called for a touch foul and he had words with the referee. The result was a technical foul. Chatham sank all 4 free throws and got the ball out of bounds. In an instant Chatham was back on their feet. A 3-pointer and FG by Chatham and suddenly Summit had fallen behind 21-20. Fortunately, treys by Smith and Dwayne Reid got the lead back but Chatham was fighting hard and the half ended with Summit clinging to a 30-28 lead. The 2nd half began with a Chatham field goal, tieing the score. Summit FGs by Chris Dean, Smith and Dwayne Reid made the score 36-30. Chatham answered with 3 baskets and it was tied again. Two free throws by Smith were answered by a Chathm FG. The quarter was closed out by Summit field goals by Chris Conlon (playing his first minutes since his injury on Feb 7th.) and Smith, giving Summit a 4 point lead. The 4th quarter began with Dwayne Reid sinking two 3-pointers to give Summit a 10 point lead (48-38). Four Chatham free throws were followed by two by John Alpizar. Two more Dwayne Reid field goals were offset by a Chatham free throw and 3-pointer. With 1:50 left to play Summit held a 54-46 lead. Chatham was forced to foul and Smith and Mike Dugan answered the call, hitting both ends of 1 and 1s. Chatham answered with 8 points so with 34 seconds left it was a 4 point game. Dwayne Reid put the icing on the cake with a layup following a Chatham turnover. Chatham fouled but Dwayne Reid hit one of two attempts and Smith hit a pair, and it was all over. Dwayne Reid had a big night with 28 points and Smith had 15 points and 11 rebounds. |
