The win was the 20th of the season. It is the first time Summit has had 20 victories in a season since 1976 when Summit was in the old Suburban Conference. The final score was lopsided, but in the 1st quarter it looked like anything but a blowout. GL moved the ball very well and scored outside and inside. It took a late 3 pointer for Summit to take a 14-11 lead. At this point there was a lot of angst among the Summit fans. In the 2nd quarter Summit turned up the defensive heat and played a zone defense that set up a lot of steals. Dwayne Reid(5 pts), Dwight Reid(9 pts) and Wellington Smith (9 pts) went on a tear, scoring all of Summit's 23 points in the quarter. Meantime the defense held GL to only 7 points. Dwayne Reid scored 13 of Summit's 26 points in the 3rd quarter and lead grew to 28 points. Much of the 4th quarter was played by the reserves. Summit had a hot hand outside the 3 point arc with a total of 10. Dwayne Reid had 5, Smith and Dwight Reid each had 2 and Mike Dugan hit one. For the game, 3 Summit players scored more than 20 points. Dwayne Reid led all scorers with 24 points, Dwight Reid contributed 22 and Wellington Smith rolled in 21 points. |
