Summit's best season of basketball in 40 years came to a end in the Group II finals at the hands of Haddonfield. Summit knew it would be tough to play an inside game with Haddonfield's 7'-0" Zoubek patrolling in the paint. They had to rely heavily on good outside shooting. The strategy worked in the 1st half as Dwayne Reid hit 5 of 11 from 3-point range in the 1st half and Summit carried a 28-25 lead into the locker room. The second half was a different matter. The shooting went cold and Summit was able to score on 6 of 24 attempts from 3-point land.

In the 2nd half Haddonfield used their height to advantage as they used a high-low post with 7-0 Zoubek under the basket and 6-5 Lacatena at the high post. In the 1st half Summit held this combination to only 9 points but they combined for 18 points in the first 12 minutes of the 2nd half.

Haddonfield scored the first 6 point of the 2nd half to take a 3 point lead (31-28). A 3-pointer by John Alpizar tied the score. Dwight Reid responded to a Haddonfield FG and the score was 33-33. Haddonfield ran off the next 5 points before Dwayne Ried scored a trey to make it a 38-36 ballgame. After another Haddonfield goal Chris Conlon drained a 3-pointer to cut the lead to a point (40-39). Unfortunately, Haddononfield scored the next 8 points to take an 9 point lead with 6 minutes left in the game. Summit cut the lead to 3 points on a 3-pointer by Dwayne Reid, a free throw by Dwight Reid and a basket by Wellington Smith. Two more Haddonfield FGs were answered by a Mike Dugan trey and with 3 minutes remaining the score was 52-48. Summit again traded two Haddonfield goals for a 3-pointer by John Alpizar and Summit was down 6 points with only 1:30 left. At this point Summit was forced to begin fouling but Haddonfield's point guard, Heckendorn, hit 7 of his 8 free throws to ice the game.

Dwayne Reid led the Summit scoring with 25 points. His season total is 619 points, giving him the Summit single season scoring record. His career total of 1097 makes him only the 4th player in Summit basketball to break the 1000 point career mark.

Wellington Smith had a "double-double" with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
