Summit won its first game of the season going away. Summit started slowly but a 6 point spurt at the end of the 1st quarter put Summit ahead 12-7. The lead grew in every quarter and by the 3rd quarter it was clear that Morris Hills was unable to cope with Summit's pressure defense. Summit forced turnover after turnover, overwhelming Morris Hills. In the 3rd quarter Dwayne Reid scored 10 of his 13 points off defensive steals.
It was certainly fortunate that Summit's transition game was on fire because their outside shooting was definitely cold. Only 7 points were scored outside all night. Reid led all scorers with 29 points. Wellington Smith scored 14 points and added a game high 8 rebounds. Smith was hampered by 3 first quarter foul calls, one of which was very questionable. He spent much of the 1st half on the bench and picked up a 4th foul before the 1st half was over.
While John Alpizar didn't score any points, he was tirelessly effective on defense and skillfully directed the offense from his point guard position. He was the only starter who was on the court continuously until wholesale substitution in the final minute and a half.
