Can you believe it? Summit beat Pascack Valley to go to the State Group II Championship Game. They will meet Haddonfield at 2 PM Sunday (3/14) at the Rutgers Athletic center.

This was a much closer game than the final score would imply. The first 3 quarters were a dog fight with Summit in the lead most of the time but the 4th quarter began with Summit in front by only 3 points. At the end of the half Summit was up by four (29-25). The first half scoring was led by Dwight Reid and Wellington Smith, each with 10 points. Summit's 3-point shooting was off the mark in the half as they went 0 for 6.

Early in the 3rd quarter Summit built a 39-30 lead. At that point Pascack Valley went on an 11-2 run to tie the score at 41-41. In the final minutes of the quarter Dwight Reid hit Summit's first 3 pointer of the night and John Alpizar drained 2 free throws to get back a 3 point lead for Summit.

The 4th quarter started with a bang and Dwight Reid scored a trey, Dwight Reid connected on a layup and Smith scored a jumper. Suddenly Summit held a 10 point lead and only 55 seconds of the quarter had gone by. Summit's defensive pressure seemed to take its toll on Pascack Valley, leading to a number of transition points by Summit. Summit was able to hit the freethrows down the stretch and Pascack Valley never was able to mount a serious threat.

Dwight Reid led all Summit scorers with 26 points and hit on all 10 of his field goal attempts. Smith was close behind with 21. Dwayne Reid scored 13 points and hauled down 8 rebounds. Alpizar was also in double digits with 10 points.
