This was a must win situation if Summit is to have a chance to win the conference title. However, nothing is easy when playing Weequahic, who had inflicted Summit's only conference loss in their first meeting. Summit did not have a good shooting 1st half, but made up for it by playing excellent defense. Summit hit only 9 of 34 attempts in the half, but held Weequahic to only 7 points in each of the first two quarters. When was the last time a Weequahic team had only 14 points at the half? You can't contain Weequahic forever and Lawernce, their ace outside shooter hit 3 consecutive 3 pointers to start to get them back into the game. Fortunately, Wellington Smith and Dwayne Reid also hit some 3's and Weequahic was only able to close the gap by one point. The final quarter began with Summit ahead 38-30. Summit started the quarter with a pair of free throws by Dwayne Reid and field goals by John Alpizar and Chris Dean and things were looking comfortable at 44-32. However, following a field goal and a pair of free throws, Weequahic's Lawernce launched two 3 pointers and a long range FG that wasn't worth 3 because he had his foot on the line. Suddenly Summit's lead was down to 1 point (44-43). Dwight Reid hit a free throw and Smith bombed a three and there was some breathing room again. Dwight hit for two and then added a pair of free throws so that with less than a minute to go the lead was back to 8 points. Weequahic managed one more 3 pointer, but it was too late.
Wellington Smith led both the scoring with18 points and the rebounding with 7. Both Reids were in double figures, Dwight with 15 points and Dwayne with 14. Summit won a big one in spite of a bad shooting night, hitting only 19 of 59 shots.
