Summit fell to 2-2, losing to Westfield in the consolation round of the Kowal Tournament in Rahway. The 1st quarter was an even battle and Westfield hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to take the lead. The 2nd quarter featured 8 points by Dwayne Reid and Summit narrowed the gap by one point. Seven more points by Reid and 4 by Chris Dean allowed summit to take a 39-38 lead with 3 minuted left in the 3rd quarter. Unfortunately, Summit went cold and Westfield scored the last 6 points of the quarter. The 4th quarter began with a 5-0 run by Westfield giving them a 10 point lead. Threes by Reid and James Johnson got Summit as close as 6 points, but that was as good as it would get. A major problem of the evening was Westfield's huge advantage in rebounding. They dominated both ends of the court. At the offensive end they would repeatedly get 2 or 3 put back attempts eventually resulting in a basket. Missing from Summit's offense was their transition game. Unlike past games the defense forced few turnovers and almost no transition points.
Summit meets Colonia at 2PM Tuesday.
