Sat 04/03 11AMMorristown H Won 16 -2 Summit had little trouble in a 16-2 defeat of Morristown at Tatlock Field Saturday. Jake Lecky led all scorers with 4 goals, followed by Casey McGuire with 3. McGuire also had an assist. The rest of the scoring: Anson Fraser 2 goals, 4 assists, Mike Dugan 2 goals, 3 asists, Kevin Feeney 2 goals, 2 assists, Kyle Isaacs 1 goal, 1 assist, Andrew Clark 1 goal, Rob Hillenbrand 1 goal, John Stuckey 1 assist. Morristown couldn't get much going offensively, so it was a pretty slow day for Summit's defense. Robbie Schroeder had 4 saves in goal. With two relatively easy wins in two days, Summit is looking toward a more challenging week with games against rivals Ridgewood and Westfield, both traditionally strong programs. (reported by Gerry Dugan) No game
Mon 04/05 3PMRidgewood H Lost 10-9 In a very close struggle over four quarters, Summit suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of Ridgewood. Anson Fraser put Summit up 1-0 with an unassisted goal in the opening minutes. Mike Dugan, on an assist from Jake Lecky, scored next. Then Todd Kaiser, on a John Alpizar assist, got Summit on the board again. The first quarter ended at 3-3. Todd Kaiser got his second goal on an assist from Mike Dugan. Jake Lecky scored assisted by John Alpizar and unassisted goals by Alpizar and Fraser completed Summit's second quarter scoring. Going into halftime, Summit was up 7-4. Ridgewood came for the third quarter with both its offense and defense recharged. Despite third quarter goals by Lecky(Kaiser assist) and Dugan(Lecky assist), the Ridgewood defense forced some key turnovers and kept Summit from establishing a good offensive flow. In the last two quarters Ridgewood outscored Summit 6-2. With less than 10 seconds to go, Summit did get a shot off, but it was wide. Goalie Robbie Schroeder turned back 18 shots. (reported by Gerry Dugan) No game
Sat 04/10 11AMWestfield A Won 6-5 Summit and Westfield played three times in the 2003 season; two of those games were decided by 1 goal. Yesterday's meeting in Westfield continued that pattern with Summit coming out on top 6-5. Westfield scored first early in the first quarter, but Summit came right back on Kevin Feeney's goal on an assist from Todd Kaiser. Later in the quarter Kaiser fed Mike Dugan for a goal and the quarter ended with Summit up 2-1. Todd Kaiser opened second quarter scoring with an unassisted goal, but Westfield came back with three straight scores. Summit was struggling in the second quarter to get clean, quick clears out of its defensive end to get it transition offense running smoothly. One broken clear resulted in an empty net goal for Westfield. As the quarter wound down, Mike Dugan tied the score at 4-4 with a goal on an assist from Jake Lecky. Summit brought their game up several notches in the second half. Todd Kaiser, on an assist by John Alpizar, made it 5-4 and Mike Dugan, on a feed from Geoff Marks, brought it to 6-4 Summit as the quarter ended. Westfield came back with a fourth quarter goal and as the quarter wore on tension was high. Westfield had possesion as the clock came on the field for the final countdown. Westfield did get off a shot, but Summit's swarming defense forced it wide. Final score Summit 6, Westfield 5. The real story of the second half was Summit's defense. Longsticks Chris Conlon, John Stuckey, Brendan Feeney, and Connor Lyons played hard and tough in two mandown situations and Robbie Schroeder had 11 saves for the game, including 6 in the fourth quarter. Summit is now 3-1. (reported by Gerry Dugan) Lost
Mon 04/12 4PMHanover Park H Won 11-3 After two one goal games in a row, Summit got a bit of a breather as it had a relatively easy time with Hanover Park in an 11-3 victory at Tatlock Field. Six different players scored and there were ample substitutions and playing time for all. The scoring follows: Mike Dugan -3 goals, Geoff Marks- 2 goals, Todd Kaiser- 2 goals, 4 assists, Will Grutzmacher- 2 goals, 1 assist, Ian Kelley-1 goal, 1 assist, John Alpizar- 1 goal, Jake Lecky- 3 assists. Wed 04/14 4PM West Windsor H  Rain
Sat 04/17 11AM Randolph H Won 10-3 Summit led the whole game as the offense racked up 10 goals and the defense kept Randolph from getting its offense in gear to mount any serious attack. Todd Kaiser started the scoring with 2 goals, the first on an assist from Anson Fraser. Mike Dugan, on an feed from Jake Lecky, closed out the first quarter scoring to put Summit up 3-0. Kevin Feeney got things going in the second quarter with a goal on an assist from Mike Dugan. Dugan's second goal, again assisted by Jake Lecky, put Summit up 6-0, but Randolph came back with a late quarter goal to make it 6-1 at the half. Summit's offensive unit was a little flat in the third quarter . The only score was Will Grutzmacher's goal on an assist by Todd Kaiser. Randolph scored 2 goals in the quarter and going into the fourth it was Summit 7, Randolph 3. Any visions Randolph had about a comeback weren't shared by Summit's defense. Longsticks Chris Conlon, John Stuckey, Brendan Feeney and Conor Lyons dug in and with goalie Robbie Schroeder shut down Randolph's offense. Todd Kaiser got his third goal off a pass by Geoff Marks and Ian Kelley got hot for 2 goals, assisted by Mike Dugan on both, making it 10-3 as the game ended. Robbie Schroeder had 13 saves. Summit is now 5-1. (reported by Gerry Dugan) Win
Wed 04/21 4PM Columbia A Won 8-6 Summit defeated Columbia at Columbia in a game that was close from start to finish. The Summit team was a little out of synch; it seemed if the offense made a big play, the defense broke down and couldn't get a good stop when one was needed. When the defense forced a turnover or made a big save, the offense didn't capitalize, either missing a shot, or not hitting an open man or taking a bad shot. The big play or strong momentum to take control never materialized. But after the tension and emotion of a very close game lifted, looking back at the game it was clear that Columbia played very well. Their defense was tough, they moved the ball well and their goalie had a great game. They looked much stronger than their Star Ledger ranking of 14. Kevin Feeney started the scoring in the first with a goal on a Todd Kaiser assist. Columbia came right back with a score. Mike Dugan put Summit up 2-1 with a goal on John Alpizar's assist. Todd Kaiser's unassisted goal opened the second quarter, but Columbia came back with two. As the quarter wound down, Jake Lecky scored unassisted and Summit went into the half up 4-3. Kevin Feeney got his second goal early in the third quarter and it looked like Summit was getting on track, but again Columbia came back with 2 more goals . Mike Dugan's second goal came in the third quarter to put Summit up 6-5 going into the final quarter. Anson Fraser's goal, assisted by Geoff Marks, put Summit up 7-5 early in the fourth, but Columbia scored to make it 7-6 with still over 4 minutes to play. Anson Fraser scored again with less than 2 minutes to go and the game ended Summit 8, Columbia 6. Robbie Schroeder had 11 saves. (reported by Gerry Dugan) Win
Sat 04/24 1PM Delbarton A Lost 13-4 Over the years Summit Delbarton games have usually been very tight, defensive struggles. That was not the case today as Summit got behind early and could not stop Delbarton's potent offense or find any weakness in their tough defense. At the end of the first quarter, despite a few good opportunities, Summit found themselves down 4-0. Delbarton opened the second quarter with a goal, before Mike Dugan scored on a Jake Lecky assist, to put Summit on the scoreboard. Geoff Marks scooped a loose ball in a scrum in front of the crease and netted Summit's second goal. Going into the half Summit was down 5-2, but had played a strong quarter and had some momentum. With a few breaks, it could have been closer. Delbarton owned the second half. Its offense unleashed firepower that produced 4 goals in each quarter. Anson Fraser had an unassisted goal in the third and Mike Dugan scored again in the waning seconds of the fourth, but the game ended with Summit down 13-4. Robbie Schroeder had 15 saves. Summit is now 6-2. (reported by Gerry Dugan) Lost
Mon 04/26 4PM Chatham H Lost 6-5 Summit lost its second game in a row in a 6-5 double overtime loss to Chatham. The game was played under the lights at Livingston High School's artificial turf field due to wet conditions at Tatlock. Once again Summit got down early, spotting Chatham 2 goals before Mike Dugan scored on an assist from Anson Fraser late in the first quarter, The quarter ended with Summit down 2-1. Summit held Chatham scoreless in the second and Mike Dugan scored again to make it 2-2 at the half. Summit suffered a serious setback in the first half, when Brendan Feeney, a longstick middie and a key defensive contributor, left the game with a broken arm.

The third quarter was a standoff as neither team could get on the scoreboard. Chatham went up 3-2 early in the fourth, but Todd Kaiser tied it with an unassisted goal. John Alpizar put Summit up one with a goal on an assist from Mike Dugan. Chatham wasn't done yet and came back with 2 goals to go up 5-4. With less than 3 minutes on the clock, Jake Lecky tied it up when he scored unassisted. Regulation time ran as out at 5-5 as both team's defensive units scrambled furiously to prevent good shots.

Each side had some good opportunities in the first 4 minute sudden death OT period, but neither convertd. Chatham put one in in the second OT, which ended it at 6-5. Robbie Schroeder had 15 saves. Summit is now 6-3.  (reported by Gerry Dugan)

Wed 04/28 4PM Bridgewater H Won 6-5 This was a very interesting game! Summit never lead until Jake Lecky's fourth quarter goal with 2:30 to go put Summit up 6-5. Summit started slowly. An early first quarter penalty gave Bridgewater a man up opportunity and they scored. Summit couldn't get anything gong in the first ended with Summit down 3-0. Anson Fraser scored early in the second. Bridgewater added another to go up 4-1, before Will Grutzmacher scored for Summit late in the quarter and Summit went into the half down 4-2.

Summit started the third quarter with intensity that was missing in the first half. Two more goals by Anson Fraser finally got Summit even at 4-4, but Bridgewater converted another manup opportunity to go back up 5-4 as the third ended. Early in the fourth Fraser scored again, his fourth of the game, and it was all even at 5. Summit wanted no part of another sudden death overtime, particularly against Bridgewater, a team that's had about at least 3 OT games this season. With less than 2:30 to go Fraser hit Jake Lecky with a good feed as Lecky cut down the middle for Summit's 6th and final goal. Robbie Schroeder had 10 saves. Summit uncharacteristically had 5 penalties, but our mandown held on all but 2. Summit is now 7-3. (reported by Gerry Dugan)

Mon 05/03 4PM Livingston H Won 12-2 Despite wind and heavy rain that forced this game to be moved from Tatlock to Livingston, Summit had little trouble defeating Livingston. Mike Dugan scored 3 first quarter goals (2 assists by Todd Kaiser, 1 by Jake Lecky) to put Summit up 3-0 when the quarter ended. Jake Lecky started the second quarter scoring with an unassisted goal, followed by Dugan's fourth (Lecky assist). Goals by Ian Kelley and Rob Hillenbrand (Kaiser assist) had Summit up 7-0 at the half. Summit added 5 more goals in the second half: Todd Kaiser and Kevin Feeney had 2 each and Eric Munoz added one in the forth. Rob Schroeder had 8 saves before Pete Britt came in in the thiird quarter. Britt turned back 4 shots. Summit improved to 8-3. (reported by Gerry Dugan) Won
Wed 05/05 4PM West Morris A Won 10-1 With both the offense and defense having strong games Summit had little trouble handling West Morris. It was close in the early going, however. The first quarter ended with Summit up 2-0 on goals by Todd Kaiser(Jake Lecky assist) and Ian Kelley(John Alpizar assist). Robbie Schroeder had 4 saves in the quarter. Mike Dugan, on a feed from Geoff Marks, had Summit's only score of the second quarter. West Morris scored in the quarter and the half ended with Summit leading 3-1. Mike Dugan scored unassisted in the third quarter and going into the fourth it was Summit up 4-1. A combination of Summit's overpowering defense of Chris Conlon, John Stuckey and Connor Lyons coupled with continued offensive pressure was just too much for West Morris as the game wore on. Summit netted six goals in the fourth quarter, while West Morris was unable to come up with any offensive momentum. Geoff Marks scored two in the fourth(assists by Lecky and Dugan), Jake Lecky, Will Grutzmacher, and Todd Kaiser each had unassisted goals, and Rob Hillenbrand, on a Grutzmacher feed, scored Summit's final goal. Robbie Schroeder finished with 11 saves. (reported by Gerry Dugan) Lost
Sat 05/08 11AM Mendham H Won 14-5 Maybe it was too much guacomole and taco salad at the Friday night dinner, but it took Summit the entire first quarter to get rolling. Todd Kaiser on an assist from Geoff Marks was Summit's only goal and the quarter ended with Summit down 2-1. But by the second quarter Summit found their game and and exploded with seven goals. Will Grutzmacher and Jake Lecky got the quarter started with unassisted goals. Todd Kaiser, assisted by Jake Lecky, scored and Mike Dugan and Jake Lecky had the next two with mutual assists. Todd Kaiser and John Alpizar goals closed out the half to put Summit up 8-2. The second half was more of the same. Scoring was: Marks (Kaiser assist), Kaiser (Feeney assist) Dugan 3 goals (Stuckey, Alpizar and Kaiser assisting), Feeney(Dugan assist). Rob Schroeder turned back 13 shots and Pete Britt saved 4. Summit's defense of Chris Conlon, John Stuckey and Connor Lyons prevented Mendham from gaining any offensive momentum. Summit improved its record to 10-3. (reported by Gerry Dugan) Lost
Tue 05/11 4PM West Essex A Won 6-5 With game time temperature hovering around 90 and humidity to match, the weather was expected to be a factor in this game, and it did. Summit started slowly and West Essex had the ball in Summit's defensive end much of the first quarter. The result was Summit was down 3-1 at the end of the quarter. Ian Kelley had Summit's only score, unassisted in a scramble over a loose ball in front of the goal. Summit had much more offensive control in the second quarter. Will Grutzmacher got Summit scoring started on a feed from Anson Fraser, as Summit closed the gap to one goal. Jake Lecky and John Alpizar had unassisted goals. but West Essex got one and it was 4 all late in the second quarter. Summit got possesion with 30 seconds on the clock and quickly called a timeout. With 10 seconds on the clock Geoff Marks scored from the front on a feed by Mike Dugan and the half ended with Summit up 5-4. The third quarter opened with dark clouds to the west and West Essex getting a quick goal to tie at 5-5. As thunder began to rumble, Geoff Marks scored his second on an assist by Jake Lecky and Summit was back up 6-5. Rob Schroeder had 10 saves. Summit is now 11-3. (reported by Gerry Dugan) No game

Todd Kaiser scored twice, Geoff Marks and Ian Kelley each had 1 goal. Jake Lecky had 4 assists. The defense played as well as any time this year, particularly in the second half. They were pretty aggressive and got a few penalties, but the man down unit shut Seton Hall down every time. Seton Hall Prep is 6-8. Summit is now 12-3

Note:The UCT game will be against the winner of Gov. Livingston vs New Providence and will be played Sunday at 4pm at Tatlock. Westfield plays Johnson at 2pm also at Tatlock. (reported by Gerry Dugan)

Sun 05/164PMNew Providence UCT (H) Won 13-3 Summit had an easy time in this first ever matchup with neighboring New Providence in this semi final round game of the second annual Union County Lacrosse Tournament. Prior to the game Coach Davidson indicated he expected New Providence, with a 9-4 record, to be scrappy. They were, but as only a three year old varsity program they could not match Summit's strength at either end of the field. Summit easily jumped to a 6-0 first quarter lead. Will Gruetzmacher scored in the opening seconds on an assist from Todd Kaiser after Summit controlled the opening face off. Other scoring in the quarter was: Anson Fraser (Dugan assist), Todd Kaiser (Lecky assist), Mike Dugan (Lecky assist), Jake Lecky unassisted, Dugan (Lecky assist). Summit added two more in the second quarter as Dugan (Kaiser assist) and Kaiser (John Alpizar assist) scored and the half closed with Summit up 8-0. The third quarter saw goals by Kevin Feeney (Kaiser assist), Anson Fraser (Dugan assist), Ian Kelley (Alpizar assist) and Lecky (Stuckey assist). After 6 saves, Robbie Schroeder was replaced in goal by Pete Britt with 1:17 left in the third quarter. Ian Kelley closed out Summit's scoring in the fourth on a feed from Geoff Marks. Pete Britt had 4 saves. No Game
Tue 05/18 4PM Westfield UCT Finals Won 13-2 Summit - Westfield is a traditional lacrosse rivalry. Despite Westfield's 8-10 record, Summit couldn't take Westfield lightly particularly considering its close call 6-5 victory over Westfield earliy in the season. This game had the potential to be another low scoring, defensive game. It was, for a half. Any fan who arrived late and missed the first quarter didn't miss much. Both teams used the first quarter to work out the kinks and shake big game jitters. The quarter ended scoreless with very few shots taken. Summit got on track offensively in the second with Mike Dugan getting the scoring started with an unassisted goal. Dugan scored again off a John Alpizar feed. Todd Kaiser, on an assist by Ian Kelley, put Summit up 3-0 at the half. Although the score was still close, the momentum was definitely Summit's as they controlled the ball most of the quarter.

The third quarter belonged to Summit as a balanced offensive attack registered 6 goals. Dugan scored on a Kaiser assist, followed by Kevin Feeney, again on a Kaiser assist. Geoff Marks, assisted by Alpizar, Kelley, on a Dugan assist, and Rob Hillenbrand, on an Alpizar assist, all scored before Dugan closed out the quarter with an unassisted goal. Summit was up 9-1 at the end of the third. Jake Lecky opened the fourth quarter scoring with an unassisted goal. Kelley, Kaiser assist, and Feeney, unassisted, closed out Summit's scoring. Westfield managed to score 2 in the fourth. Summit's defense was again stifling. Longsticks Chris Conlon, John Stuckey, Connor Lyons, and man down contributors Anson Fraser, Alpizar and Lecky combined to wear down Westfield's offensive unit. Rob Schroeder turned back 11 Westfield shots for a great game in goal. Mike Dugan and Robbie Schroeder were selected tournament MVP's. Summit is now 13-3. (reported by Gerry Dugan)

Thu 05/20 New Providence 1st Rnd State Tournament Won 11-2 It was deja vu all over again as Summit easily defeated New Providence in this first round state tournament game at Tatlock Field. As in the first round UCT game against New Providence last week Summit took an early first quarter lead and never looked back. Summit lead 4-0 at the end of the first quarter and 10 -0 at the half. Summit shut it down in the second half with only one goal. New Providence didn't get a legitimate shot on goal until late in the third quarter. Scoring follows: Todd Kaiser 4 goals, 1 assist; Jake Lecky 2 goals, 3 assists; Mike Dugan 1 goal, 3 assists; Ian Kelly 1 goal; Geoff Marks 1 goal; Chris Jordan 1 goal; Nick Biting 1 goal; John Alpizar 1 assist. Pete Britt replaced Robbie Scroeder in goal in the third and had 6 saves. (reported by Gerry Dugan)
Sat 05/22 NoonChatham H 2nd Rnd State Tournament Won 8-3 Using an aggresive defense that relentlessly pressured the ball and a patient ball control offense that exploited Chatham's attempts at double teaming Summit's attack, Summit defeated Chatham 8-3 at Tatlock Field to advance in the NJSIAA/PSEG tournament. Besides keeping Summit's season alive, this win avenged a tough double overtime loss to Chatham last month. Since that loss Summit has won 10 in a row.

Jake Lecky opened Summit's scoring early in the first with an unassisted goal. Geoff Marks scored next on a shovel pass feed from Mike Dugan and Kevin Feeney scored unassited to put Summit up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was relatively quiet offensively as both teams dug in defensively. Jake Lecky scored his second goal, unassisted, late in the period and Summit went into the half up 4-0.

Momentum swung to Chatham in the third. Summit's offense had a tough time getting anything going against Chatham's collapsing defense and Chatham's offense came up with two goals and enough shots that Robbie Schroeder had 6 saves. A key mandown stop by Summit to keep the score at 4-2 ended Chatham's scoring drive in the quarter, but there were still 12 minutes of lacrosse left to play.

Summit came out in the fourth ready to play and showed no signs of fatigue despite the stifling heat and pace of the first three quarters. Todd Kaiser scored first on a feed from Dugan. Longstck John Stuckey scored unassisted on a fastbreak to put Summit up 6-2, but Chatham came back with a goal to make it 6-3 with plenty of time left. Dugan drew a double team and hit Rob Hillenbrand open on the crease for Summit's seventh goal. Kaiser, on a Dugan asssit, closed out Summit's scoring for a final of 8-3. Schroeder had 10 saves in goal and agressive play by the defensive unit of Chris Conlon, Stuckey and Connor Lyons, and mandown Parker Lattin, stifiled Chatham's offense throughout the game. John Alpizar's play at defensive middie was a big factor in Summit's win. Summit will face Madison in the next round. (reported by Gerry Dugan)

Wed 05/26 4PM Madison A Group Semi-Finals Won 14-2 Summit played a great game on both ends of the field as they easily defeated Madison in this NJSIAA/PSEG Group 1 semifinal game at Madison. The second quarter was as good as Summit has played offensively in a long time. If Summit could extract whatever it was in the air they were breathing and sell it, Gator Ade and Power Bar would soon be out of business, But more about the second quarter later.

The first quarter ended with Summit up 2-1 on 2 goals by Mike Dugan from assists by Jake Lecky and Geooff Marks. Play in the quarter was as tight as the score. Madison's offense looked strong with lots of cuts and good shots. Robbie Schroeder had six saves in the first quarter and it looked Summit was in for a close game. But Summit just exploded in the second quarter with superb ball movement and accurate shooting that racked up 7 goals. Scoring in the quarter follows: Will Gruetzmacher unassisted, Dugan(Marks assist), Dugan(Todd Kaiser assist), Kaiser(Marks assist), Will Gruetzmacher(Kaiser assist), Ian Kelly(Marks assist), Lecky unassisted. The scoring surge, combined with Summit's unyielding defense took Madison completely out of the game as the half ended with Summit up 9-1.

Kaiser had Summit's only third quarter score to make it 10-1 with a quarter to play. Fourth quarter goals by Kelly(Gruetzmacher assist), Dugan (Marks assist), Kevin Feeney (Kaiser assist) and Rob Hillenbrand (Dugan assist) got the final score to 14-2.

Summit's defense of Chris Conlon, John Stuckey, and Connor Lyons was relentless in shutting down Madison, a team that averages over 12 goals per game. Schroeder had 15 saves. Summit is now 17-3 and faces Mountain Lakes in the Group 1 final Saturday at 1PM in Basking Ridge.  (reported by Gerry Dugan)

Sat 06/29 1PM Mountain Lakes Group 1 Finals Lost 9-5 Summit knew they would need their absolutely best game at offense and defense to come out on top against the perennially powerful Mountain Lakes team. This year's Lakes' team, with only one loss to Delbarton in the Morris County Tournament, was particularly strong with seniors at most positions. The Summit team gave it a good run, but came up short at the end with a 9-5 loss.

Summit jumped to an early 1-0 lead when senior Anson Fraser scored unassisted at 1:48 in the first quarter. Todd Kaiser, also unassisted, scored Summit's second goal to put Summit up 2-0, but Lakes got one back before the quarter ended. Summit up 2-1, going into the second.

Mountain Lakes found its offensive rhythm in the second quarter with two quick goals. Summit was down 3-2 when Mike Dugan scored on a Geoff Marks feed in a man up situation to tie the score. Lakes wasn't done yet and came back with 2 more goals and the half ended with Summit down 5-3.

In the third quarter Summit couldn't come up with an answer to Mountain Lakes offense's ability to take advantage of shortstick situations. The quarter closed with Summit down 7-3. It was 8-3 in the fourth when Kaiser hit Dugan for Summit's fourth goal. Summit's last goal was again by Dugan on a Jake Lecky assist. Senior Robby Schroeder had 13 saves in goal. Summit ended the season with 17 wins and 4 losses.
