Dave Mell pitched a much better game than the score would seem to indicate. Through 5 innings he had given up only 4 earned runs and was throwing strikes, only one walk through 5 innings. A misplayed popup resulted in the final 2 runs that ended the game by the 10 run rule.
However, regardless of how well Mell pitched it should be recognized that Mendham'sTim Millen completely stiffled the Summit offense. He gave up only 3 hits and was on top of his game.
Jake Huck picked up 2 of the 3 hits and Matt Fields had the 3rd, all of them singles.
