Doubles: Barber(1),Furman(1),Huck(1) |
Dave Mell put on a terrific pitching performance through the first 5 innings. He allowed only 2 hits and 3 runs. After allowing 2 runs on 1 hit in the second, he pitched the next 3 innings without allowing a single hit. He put down Parsippany 1-2-3 on 3 pitches in the 3rd inning and then struck out the side in the 4th inning.
Going in to the bottom of the 6th the score was 3-2 in favor of Parsippany. With one out Parsippany loaded the bases on a hit and 2 walks. A deep fly ball to right, which probably should have been caught, fell in for a double scoring 2 runs. Another walk reloaded bases. A routine ground ball which should have resulted in a force out at home was thrown wide of the plate allowing another run. Had things gone right Mell would have been out of the inning with at most 2 runs being scored.
Summit scored in the 3rd. Sam Zerfoss led off with a single went to 2nd when Zach Barber was walked and scored on a error. The other Summit score was in the 5th inning. Barber led off with a double, stole 3rd and scored on an infield ground ball by Tim Fields.
