Sam Potesky pitched an absolute gem of a baseball game. Through the first 6 innings he pitched a "perfect" game. He faced 18 batters and didn't allow any of them to reach 1st base. Add to that the fact that he only twice reached a 3-2 count over that stretch. To top it off he only threw 67 pitches for those 6 innings, an average of just 11 pitches per inning.

As Plainfield came up in the bottom of the 7th every one was holding their breath, Unhappily the lead off hitter managed to sneak a hit between 3rd and short to break the string. Potesky got the next two out on 3 pitches. The game would have ended as a 1 hit shutout, but for the fact that on the next ground ball the fielder tried to get the force at second instead of getting the final out at 1st. The next batter singled in the only Plainfield run. Potesky calmly struck out the next batter to end the game. It is too bad that more Summit fans hadn't made the trip to Plainfield for this Union County Tournament game.

Summit's offense established itself early with 3 runs in the 1st inning. Zach Barber led off with a single, stole 2nd and scored on Jon Buscaino's single. Tim Fields drew a walk and Buscaino eventually stole 3rd base and scored on an error by the catcher. Tim Fields wound up on 3rd. Sam Rose walked and when he stole 2nd Fields came home on the throw to 2nd base.

Summit added another run in the 2nd inning. Stoney Gibbons drew a lead off walk, followed by a single by Barber. Gibbons went to 3rd on a fielder's choice and scored on a sacrifice bunt. Summit's final 4 runs came in the 5th inning. Gibbons singled with one out and stole second. He scored when Barber was safe on an error. Buscaino doubled in Barber, but was out trying to stretch it to a triple. Tim Fields Singled and scored when Andrew Furman hit a towering 2 run home run that went all the way into the infield of the softball diamond on the far end of the property.

Another noteworthy fact is that for the first time in 15 games Summit played error free ball. Summit will meet #1 seeded Cranford on Saturday (4/30) @ Cranford.
