Summit scored the first run of the game in the first inning. Zach Barber drew a lead off walk, stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on Sam Rose's single. Unfortunately, Scotch Plains answered with a 3-run home run in their half of the inning. Summit bounced back to tie the score at 3-3 with 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Sam Zerfoss got on with a single and was driven in by Barber's first of two triples. Barber came home on Jon Busciano's single.
That was where the good news ended. Scotch Plains scored nine times in the next two innings and established an insurmountable 12-3 lead. Summit scored a run in the 4th inning (Barber tripled and Busciano got the RBI) but Scotch Plains added 4 more runs in their half. Summit's final score came in the 5th. Jake Huck singled and eventually scored on Woody Shepherd's RBI single.
