It is very hard to find anything to like about this ball game. Summit was thoroughly out played by West Essex. Dave Mell started and had a rough time finding the plate. A combination of 4 hits , 4 walks, a balk and a wild pitch resulted in 8 runs in the first two innings. Jeff Barry pitched the final 3 innings and gave up 9 runs, but only 3 of them fell into the earned category. One bright spot was that Barry didn't walk a single batter in the 3 innings he pitched. The 6 hits that he gave up would not have resulted in many run were it not for the fact that they were intermixed with 6 Summit errors.
One could argue that the defensive miscues didn't ultimately result in the defeat since the offense only managed to produce 1 run while leaving 9 runners stranded in a game that was shortened to 5 innings under the "mercy rule".
Summit meets Millburn tomorrow (Saturday) at 2PM in Millburn
