There isn't much good to say about this game. In fact, maybe the best news was that John Facchinei returned to limited action after being injured in the season opener. The serious damage was done in a 49 second stretch from the end of the 1st quarter through the first 49 seconds of the 2nd quarter. Mendham had put together a 12 play drive that stalled on the Summit 16 yard line. On the last play of the quarter Mendham kicked a field goal to take a 3-0 lead. They kicked off to begin the 2nd quarter. On Summit's first play Mendham intercepted a pass on the Summit's 40 yard line and ran it into the end zones for a TD. After their next kick off Summit got the ball on their 27 yard line. The first play was a pitch out to Will Gruetzmacher. However, a Mendham blitzing lineman broke through and intercepted the pitch out and raced in for the score. As a result Summit was down 17-0 and the clock read 11:11. On Mendham's next possession Summit extracted a modicum of revenge when Jacob Huck intercepted a Mendham pass and raced 58 yards for the score.
After an exchange of punts Mendham got the ball at midfield with 1:11 left in the half. It looked like Summit would exit the half down only 10 points in spite of the early disaster. Unfortunately, Mendham completed 3 straight passes to score before the half ended.
On Mendham's second possession they drove 58 yards in 9 plays to put the game completely out of reach at 31-7. Summit only sustained drive occurred in the 4th quarter Runs by Kaiser and Huck resulted in a 1st down at the Mendham 47. Passes to John Stucky and Greg Jarrett resulted in a 1st down at the 24. Two sacks put the ball back to the 35 but on the next play Huck hit Kaiser for the touchdown.
