Summit was heavily favored to beat a Parsippany team that had been soundly beaten by every other team in the conference. Unfortunately Parsippany didn't get the word. They took the opening kickoff at their 18 yard line and returned to their 49 yard line. Ten plays later they were in the end zone and sporting a 7-0 lead. Summit managed to tie the score after they recovered a Parsippany fumble (the first of 5 Parsippany turnovers) on the Summit 45. Summit moved to a 1st down at the Parsippany 15 behind the rushing of Pearce Talbot, Gregg Jarrett and Daryl Toney. On 4th down Jacob Huck hit Talbot for a TD to tie the score with less than a minute gone in the 2nd quarter. On Parsippany's next possession they had 3rd and 11 from their 30 yard line. They connected on a pass over the middle and the receiver ran 70 yard for a score. The PAT went just wide and that would eventually be the difference in the game. The 2nd half was a picture of frustration. Mid way through the 3rd quarter Summit drove to a 1st down at the Parsippany 20 yard line. However, on 3rd down Summit coughed up the ball to end the drive. Summit got the ball back on the 1st play of the 4th quarter when Anthony Delle Donne intercepted a Parsippany pass at Summit's 35. Five plays later Summit again turned the ball over on a fumble at Summit's 38. Luckily, Parsippany had two successive fumbles, which they recovered, and eventually had to punt. Summit got the ball at their 21 yard line with under 7 minutes left. This would likely be Summit's last chance to score. Huck connected with Toney for a 30 yard gain to the Parsippany 49. After being sacked for a 9 yard loss, Huck again passed to Toney 16 yards. On the next play Huck surprised the defense with a keeper that gained 5 yards and a 1st down. A 17 yard pass to Talbot moved the ball to Parsippany 20 yard line. Will Gruetzmacher got to the 16, Toney took the ball to the 12, and Huck ran for a 1st down at the 5 yard line. On the next play Toney bulled his way to the 1. Gruetzmacher was stopped cold at the 1. Huck tried a QB sneak but was stopped inches from the goal line. Now it was 4th down and the game hinged on the next play. Huck tried another sneak and this time succeeded. Gruetzmacher came on to kick the extra point that could win the game with only 1:45 left. He split the uprights and Summit got away with a 1 point victory.
