From the score you night be tempted to believe this game was easy, it wasn't. Chatham started out like a house on fire. They raced to an 18 -8 lead late in the 1st quarter. They did everything right and Summit was way off. At the end of the quarter Chatham had hit 8 FGs to Summit's three. Summit began to chip away at the Chatham lead throughout the 2nd quarter. Maurice Torres provided a big spark as he came off the bench and promptly hit two 3-pointers. Summit got back to 26-23 in the closing seconds of the half. With the buzzer about to sound Wellington Smith let fly a 65 footer that barely left his hand before the buzzer sounded. It hit nothing but net to tie the game at 26.
The 2nd half was sparked by James Johnson who hit for 12 points, Summit slowly pulled away and finished up 41-35 entering the 4th quarter. However, Chatham had shown that it could put points up in bunches so the Summit fans were still tense. Fortunately, after Chatham had pulled to within four points, Johnson went on a spree with 3 FGs and Torres contributed another. With 3:30 left in the game Summit now held a commanding 49-37 lead. The best Chatham could do was to get to within 7 at one point.
Johnson led the scoring with 18 points, followed by Smith (15 pts) and Torres (13 pts). Defensively, Smith was huge with 20 rebounds. He completely dominated Chatham on defense in the 2nd half.
