Summit's Gym was packed to overflowing for this Group 2 sectional quarter final. Summit students filled one end and Chatham students filled the other end. The noise level was deafening. Summit prevailed, but it wasn't easy. All season long Summit's Achilles' heel has been the inability to hit their free throw and it almost cost Summit this game. With about five minutes left in the game Summit had built a fairly comfortable 10 point lead (29-19). Over the final 5 minutes Summit went to the foul line 17 times and managed to make only 6 tries. Over the same stretch Chatham hit 7 of 9 foul shots. The result was that Summit's lead at one point was reduced to only 4 points (35-31).

Fortunately, a free throw by Wellington Smith and a FG by Maurice Torres rebuilt the lead to 7 points. Chatham was forced to foul and Summit continued to struggle at the line. However, they hit sufficient free throws to hang on to their 7 point advantage.

Smith led the Summit scoring with 14 points and Mike Dugan pulled down 9 rebounds. James Johnson had a big 1st half, scoring all of his 10 points to lead Summit to a 20-16 halftime lead.

Summit will host a Sectional Semi final game on Friday at 7PM. Their opponent has yet to be determined.
