Summit's strong 2nd half rally fell short, but it turned what might have been a rout into a very exciting game. As has happened before, Summit's free throw shooting was dismal. In the final quarter Summit missed 10 of 19 tries while Cranford missed only 3 of 11.

After a terrible 2nd quarter Summit fell behind 38-23 and everything looked bleak. Summit got things turned around in the 3rd quarter on both offense and defense. The defense held Cranford to 3 field goals and 10 points while the offense, led by James Johnson (7 pts) and Wellington Smith (6 pts), cut 5 points off the Cranford lead. That still left Summit behind by 10 with 8 minutes to play. Baskets by Smith, Maurice Torres and free throws by Chris Conlon and James Johnson reduced the margin to 8 points (57-49) with 4 minutes remaining. Travis Marchell got a FG and a layup to cut the lead to 4 (57-53) with 2 minutes left. Now the gym was rocking. However, that was a close as Summit would get as the key free throws wouldn't fall.

Summit held a 13-12 lead with 20 seconds on the clock in the1st quarter. A 3 point try rimmed out and led to a fast break basket for Cranford. A steal in the inbound pass resulted in another Cranford score and suddenly Summit was behind by 3 instead up by 3. This started the slide that saw Cranford out score Summit 26-10 over the last 8:20 of the first half.

Summit will play J.P. Stevens, who lost to Westfield, on Tuesday @6PM.
