Wellington Smith poured in 15 1st quarter points on the way to helping Summit establish an early 23 -8 lead. Summit applied an aggressive defense that really stifled Hanover Park during the 1st quarter. However, that tough defense also resulted in 27 penalties being called against Summit. Aided by 23 made free throws, out of 34 attempts, Hanover Park played Summit even over the last 3 quarters. The lead grew to over 20 points but Hanover Park fought back to close to within 10 points before losing by 15 points. In the end, Smith and James Johnson were just too much offense for Hanover Park. Both players had season scoring highs. Smith scored 31 points and Johnson scored 19. That accounted for 50 of Summit's 63 points. Mike Dugan had a great defensive night and pulled down 11 rebounds. Smith also had 11 rebounds.
Watch out for Hanover Park next year because their starting lineup comprised 3 sophomores and 2 juniors.
