Summit faced a big test against a Mendham team, at Mendham, that was unbeaten in the conference. Summit came through with flying colors. The key to this overwhelming victory was an aggressive stifling defense. Can you imagine holding a Mendham team to less than 7 points in each of the of the first 3 quarters. By then it was all over as Summit was ahead 38-19.
The offense performed well, connecting on over 50% of its shots, but this was a game that was won by smart tough defense. Wellington Smith had a great night with 20 points and 8 rebounds but also gave Mendham fits on defense. The defense was so quick that Mendham was unable to score a single 3-pointer. No one could remember Mendham suffering a loss this bad in at least a decade. It was a remarkable team performance.
