This game was looking like a sure loss late in the 3rd quarter. With a couple of minutes left Summit was down 10 points at 42-32. To that point Parsippany Hills had thoroughly out played Summit. Just before the end of that quarter Wellington Smith hit a jumper to cut the lead to 8 points. Suddenly Smith, who had scored only 6 points in the 1st half, got hot. To begin the 4th quarter Smith hit a field goal and then followed it up with a 3-pointer. Summit was back in the ball game and the lead had been cut to 3 points. However, a Smith free throw was sandwiched between a Par Hills FG and a 3-point shot and the deficit was back to 7 point with 4 minutes to play.
Field goals by Mike Dugan and Maurice Torres cut the lead back to 3 points with 3:14 left on the clock. Some torrid defense by Summit forced a turnover and Smith drained a 3 point shot to tie the score at the 2:28 mark. A Smith free throw gave Summit it's first lead of the game (48-47) with only 1:46 left. Par Hills tied the score on a free throw but another field goal by Smith put Summit ahead by two. With only 28 second on the clock, and Par Hills with the ball, James Johnson forced a turnover and took the ball in for a great layup. Par Hills got another free throw but with 14 seconds left Torres sank 2 free throws to clinch the game for Summit.
Summit had come from being down by ten, and nearly dead with 10 minutes left, to win by five. Smith wound up with 18 2nd half points and a game high total of 24 points. He also grabbed 14 rebounds.
