Summit came up against a tall and athletic Rahway team that dominated the rebounding at both ends of the court. Rahway took charge at the beginning and ran up a 15-5 lead before Summit managed to get its offense going. Summit fought back to cut the lead to 3 points (23-20) before a bazaar technical fouls was called on Summit. When a non shooting foul was called on #21, Travis Marchell it was determined that Marchell was listed in the Summit score book as wearing number 31. This resulted in a technical foul. Rahway sank both free throws and took the ball out of bounds. They scored and were fouled and suddenly the score was 28-20. To Summit's credit they battled back to end the half 32-29.

Summit continued to close the gap and with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter summit took its only lead (38-37) on a field goal by Josh Sussman. Rahway ran off the next 9 points and the quarter ended 46-39. A free throw by James Johnson and a 3-pointer by Mike Dugan made it a 3 point game. Rahway answered with 3 points to make their lead 49-43. Two field goals by Wellington Smith got Summit back to within 2 points, but Summit was never able to get any closer.

Smith led the Summit scoring with 25 points and Johnson was the only other Summit player in double digits with 11 points. The biggest single difference between the teams was rebounding. Summit almost never got a second chance rebound on offense while Rahway would get 2 or 3 at times. Smith, who was averaging around 15 rebounds per game, was held to only 6.
