Summit ran into a very aggressive West Essex defense but managed to come out on top in a game that was closer than it should have been. At the end of the 3rd quarter Summit held a 47-34 lead and appeared to be pulling away. However, Summit sank only 5 of their 15 fourth quarter free throws. It seemed like each time Summit missed a pair of Free throws West Essex would answer with a 3 pointer. The 13 point lead quickly shrank to 50-44 with lots of time to play. Fortunately, baskets by Maurice Torres, Wellington Smith and James Johnson got things on the track to victory.
The game started badly as Smith picked up 2 quick fouls in the first 2 minutes and had to sit out the rest of the quarter. Torres picked up the slack as he scored 12 1st half points while Summit built a 31-20 lead. Chris Conlon hit for 6 points in the 2nd quarter and Smith added 5 points. Smith was double teamed most of the game and had to struggle to get good shots and rebounds.
Summit continued its weak free throw shooting, hitting only10 of 24 attempts. As a team Summit is only 49% from the free throw line for its 1st 3 games. Torres led all scorers with 15 points and Smith pulled down 9 rebounds. The high scorer of the game was West Essex's Lavacy with 21 points.
