The 3rd quarter saw a more spirited Par Hills team while the Hilltoppers struggled to find the hoop. Although Par Hills pulled ahead in the 3rd, Summit was within striking distance starting the 4th, down only by 7 (35-28). The Hilltoppers created numerous turnovers on defense and owned the defensive boards as well this quarter which allowed Summit to trim the lead to 3 and 5 points late in the game. The Hilltoppers also attacked the offensive glass ferociously leading to many foul shot opportunities. Unfortunately for the Hilltoppers, they never got closer than 5 in the last minute of the game. Summit was victimized by a poor 8 for 21shooting from the line which took away any realistic opportunity to stage a comeback late. The Hilltoppers did exceptionally well considering their best scorer and rebounder, Danielle Scott, was out for the 2nd game in a row due to injury and also because Jess Novo was unavailable due to a non-basketball related injury. Captain Grace Obando anchored a solid defensive effort by the squad while Captain Allison Cahott had a team high 16 points and Renee Freeden chipped in with 13. |
