Summit picked up its 2nd win of the season behind a gritty performance of unlikely heroes. Summit used both a full court press and an effective zone in the first half to score 29 points while holding West Essex to 20 points, keeping their leading scorer, Amanda Miceli, to a mere 9 points.
West Essex came out in the 3rd quarter in a full court press which seemed to unsettle Summit and the 9 point lead quickly evaporated. Summit was able to regain control of the quarter but its 9 point lead had been reduced to 2, at 36-34.
The 4th quarter was a nail-biting affair. Summit lost its lead midway through the quarter and trailed 44-42 before Danielle Scott tied it with a jumper. Meghan Osmulski followed that up with a long 3-pointer and Summit never looked back. Summit had to withstand a fierce onslaught by West Essex in the last 2 minutes but Summit went 12 of 16 from the foul-line in the fourth (7 for 10 in the last 2 minutes) to seal the victory. Summit had 4 shooters in double digits: Scott (17), Renee Freeden (14), Osmulski (11) and Jessica Novo (10). (reported by Coach Martins)
