Sophomore Kevin Lackaye pitched a gem of a game allowing only 5 hits and no runs. What's more instead of defensive misques, three great defensive plays helped save the shutout for Lackaye. In the 3rd inning Chatham's leadoff batter singled, but the runner was removed on a nifty double play. The batter hit a sharp shot down the middle that was fielded by Mark Shehata, he stepped on 2nd and threw to 1st. In the 5th inning the leadoff batter was walked , stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a passed ball. With two out Chatham's batter drove a hard hit to left that looked like it might be a home run. Sam Zerfoss went almost to the fence and made a leaping catch to save a couple of runs. In Chatham's 7th, the leadoff runner got on via an error. Lackaye, whose pitch count was now over 100, walked the 2nd batter, bringing the tieing run to the plate. A line drive to Zerfoss made it one out. The next batter slammed a pitch into the hole between 1st and 2nd, but Jon Buscaino made a grteat diving stop, picked himself up and got the out at 1st. That made it 2 outs but moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd. A ground ball to Shahata resulted in the final out, 6-3.

Summit got all three of its runs in the 4th inning. Eric Della Piazza began the inning with a walk and moved into scoring position on Andrew Furman's single. Sam Rose drove in Shehata with a single. An infield out moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Coach Fenska called for a suicide squeeze and Zerfoss laid down a perfect bunt, scoring Rose.
