If you only looked at the final score you might assume that there was a breakdown in the pitching. The fact is that only 3 of Dover's 14 runs were earned. Sam Zerfoss gave up only 2 walks and struck out 7 over the 4 1/3 innings he pitched. Matt Krell came on to finish the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up only 2 hits. Although there was some good pitching, 8 errors resulted, in 11 unearned runs.

In spite of their defensive problems Summit was only down 9-7 going into the bottom of the 6th. A strike out and two infield ground balls would have ended the inning with the game close but both ground balls resulted in errors and the bases where loaded with only one out. Bernie Grishman made a spectacular catch in deep center field for the 2nd out. But a single and a home run really put the game out of reach.

Summit scoring summary
1st inning: Grishman started the game off with a single, stole 2nd, moved to 3rd on a ground ball and scored on Jon Buscaino's infield out.

2nd inning: Andrew Furman and Kevin Lackaye got on via errors, Singles by Eric Della Piazza and Zerfoss drove in two runs.

4th inning: Furman and Lackaye again got on base via errors, a double by Della Piazza scored 2 runs.

5th inning: Mark Shehata walked and Buscaino singled. Shehata was thrown out attempting to steal 3rd, A double by Della Piazza scored Buscaino and Della Piazza eventually scored when Lackaye's ground ball was mishandled.

7 inning: Shehata led off with a single, after two ground outs Furman's single scored Shehata, Lackaye drew a base on balls and an error on Della Piazza's ground ball loaded the bases with two out. Sadly the next batter struck out
