In spite of another "mercy" loss there was a bright spot. Sam Zerfoss took the mound against the strongest team in the iron Hills Conference (11-1) and for 4 of the 5 innings he was on top of his form. In those 4 innings he held Hanover Park to 1 earned run off 5 hits. As has happened often, Summit had one bad inning, in this case the 3rd. A single and a double started the inning and produced 1 run. The next two batters flied out to center and it looked like Summit might escape with only one run. However a witches brew of 4 error and 6 more hits resulted in 8 more runs and put the game away for Hanover Park. Surprisingly, Zerfoss was able to regain his form and pitch well for the last two innings. In the bottom of the 5th the 1st two batters were out 6-3, the third batter reached base on a error, went to second on another error and scored the game ending unearned run on a single.
Summit began the game by taking a 1-0 lead on a Jon Buscaino double and a Sam Rose single. Summit tied the game 2-2 in the top of the 3rd. Mark Shehata singled with one out and went to 2nd on a wild pitch. Eric Della Piazza singled to drive in the run.
Note: the Krug Tournament game with Madison has been moved to 9AM.
