Simon Swartzmaier got his 2nd start of the year and pitched another complete game. He held a strong Hanover Park team to just 6 hits over the 7 inning. Summit was in the game right up the the 7th inning. Unfortunately, a one out walk and a first pitch home run gave the Hornets two more runs and changed a 3-1 game to a 5-1 game. The score was 2-1 going into the 5th when a solo home run had increased the margin.

Summit got out on top in the bottom of the 1st inning. Bernie grishman got on by an error and Eric Della Piazza and Andrew Furmen were walked. Kevin Lackaye's sacrifice fly to left drove in Grishman. Summit threatened in the 2nd when Tim Donnally doubled with one out and Sam Zerfoss followed up with a "Texas league" single to put 2 runners on. Sadly the the next two batters struck out. Summit had another chance in the 3rd inning when Della Piazza smacked a 1 out double. But Furman hit into a fielder's choice and a deep fly ball by Lackaye was hauled in the the center fielder.

This was a well played game against one of the best teams in the conference. The outfield of Zerfoss, Grishman and Della Piazza made a number of fine catches and the infield of Weber, Buscaino, Shehata and Lackaye played error free ball. Swarztmaier was very effective over the 7 innings, with the 2 home runs spelling the difference. Too bad he will be going back to Germany at the end of the school year.
