Jon Buscaino got off to his best start of the season. Through 2 2/3 innings he really had his stuff, including 4 strikeouts. With 2 out in the 3rd inning and runners on 1st and 3rd Buscaino looked to have a good chance to end the inning without a score. Everything changed when he attempted a pick off of the runner at 3rd. The throw went wild, the runner scored, and it was like a switch had been turned off. This was followed by a double, 3 successive walks, a single and a double. At this point Matt Krell came on in relief. Krell got a strikeout that would have ended the inning, but the 3rd strike was dropped and the throw down to 1st was high and went into right field. The throw from right field went wide and 3 more runs crossed the plate. That pretty much put the game out of reach.
Summit scored 2 runs in the 3rd when Mark Shehata was walked and Eric Della Piazza hit a home run over the center field fence. Summit added 4 more in the 4th when Kevin Lackaye singled, Sam Rose and Bernie Grishman were walked to load the bases. With no outs. Singles by Steve Clark, Dan Weber and Buscaino each drove in a run and a 4th run came across on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the 5th Summit was trying to stave off a "mercy" loss. Lackaye again led off with a single and got into scoring position on a wild pitch. Grishman singled to drive in Lackaye and then went 2nd on another wild pitch. The key run was now in scoring position, but a ground out and strikeout ended the game.
