Their constant ball movement, great communication and relentless pressure resulted in goals by Jamie Osmolski, Nora McGuire, Jenna Wilson, Colleen Laughlin, Rachael Cohen, and Brianna Schlesinger. Only in the final minute of the game was the shut out lost during stoppage time. Maggie Groves had a terrific game in goal and the entire defense registered a dominating performance. | Fri 10-07 | 4:OOPM | Governor Livingston H | Won 3-0 In a methodical dominating performance on a slippery wet field, the Freshman Lady Hilltoppers defeated a big squad from Berkeley Heights in the rain at Wilson. It took a while for the freshman to get used to the slick conditions, but soon the offense which has been led all year by Colleen Laughlin and Jamie Osmulski began to click. A nice throw in by Kelly Grouss to Osmulski was sent through to Rachel Cohen who made some nice moves to split the defenders and send a low shot into the right corner for a 1-0 lead. In the second half the girls continued to relentlessly push the ball to the Berkeley Heights side of the field. The defense, led by sweeper Shannon Murphy, Julia Jarrold, Kristen Railey and Grouss, rarely let a ball through to our side, enabling keeper Maggie Groves to record another shutout in what is turning out to be a great season for her. Midway through the second half a nice feed from Jenna Wilson to Osmulski led to a high shot that cleared the goalies hands for s 2-0 lead. The final goal was knocked in by Katherine Childers from the 20 yard line on another nice feed from Wilson after a good push by Nora McGuire. |
