There was not much positive about this loss to Weequahic. The game got off to a bad start when Summit's first possession ended with a blocked punt , giving Weequahic the ball on Summit's 17 yard line. A 14 yard pass quickly gave Weequahic a 6-0 lead. On Summit's second possession the Hilltoppers moved the ball from Summit's 32 to the Weequahic 18 where the drive ended with a fumble. Weequahic took advantage of the turnover by driving 82 yards in 7 plays. Suddenly Summit was down 14-0. Summit bounced back by taking the ensuing kickoff and moving 66 yards in 5 plays to gain a 1st down on the Weequahic 9 yard line. But the drive stalled and Summit settled for a Will Gruetzmacher field goal. In the final possession of the half Summit had another scoring opportunity. Summit took possession on their 33 yard line and quickly moved to a 1st down at Weequahic's 16. However, some weak clock management resulted in the half ending while Summit was desperately trying to get it's field goal team into position. The first half statistics were closer than score would indicate. Summit had 156 yards of total offense to Weequahic's 184 yards.
The 2nd half was difficult to watch. Summit completely abandoned any pretense of a balanced offense and went almost totally to the passing game. Not until very late in the 4th quarter, when the reserves got some playing time, did Summit register a running play. Sadly, Summit was never able to move the ball into Weequaghic territory. Meanwhile Weequahic was able to rack up 26 points.
