Parsippany Hills came into the game with a record of 12-4 and a goal of avenging an earlier loss to Summit. It was a rough and tumble game where the referees called relatively few fouls, considering the intensity of the game. Unfortunately, the fouls that were called fell disproportionately on Summit. Summit got to the line 4 times to Par Hills' 15, resulting in a 9 point difference. Another key element in the loss was that Par Hills had a significant advantage in rebounding. Summit, who had average 27 rebounds per game, managed only 15.
Par Hills led for the entire 1st half but Summit hung tough with the help of 8 points by Taylor Simpson, 7 by Chris Kehoe and 6 from Josh Sussman. The half ended with Summit down 28-27. The 3rd quarter was a defensive struggle with neither team scoring many points but Par Hills increasing its lead to 2 points (36-34). Par Hills built a 40-36 lead before Travis Marchell nailed a trey. After another Par Hills FG Marchell came back down the court and hit another 3-pointer to make it a tie at 42-42. Par Hills regained a a 5 point lead before Simpson scored a three to get back to 53-51 with about 40 seconds left. Summit had a one last chance, but a 3-pointer fell short and Summit was forced to foul. Par Hills hit 3 of 4 to put the game out of reach with but 1 second on the clock. Kehoe took the in bounds pass and threw up a 55 footer that almost ripped the net out to make the final 56-54.
Summit had three players in double figures; Kehoe (15), Marchell (14) and Simpson (11). Sussman garnered 6 rebounds.
