Tragedy struck in the 4th quarter. Summit carried a 7 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. With 6:30 remaining in the game Summit had built the the lead to 10 points (38-28). Over the next 5:30 Summit managed only 3 points while South Plainfield scored 13 to tie the score at 41-41, with one minute to go. Summit had a chance to break the tie, but with 14 seconds on the clock some lazy ball handling led to a turnover. The final seconds were hectic with South Plainfield getting the winning score with 2 seconds remaining.
Summit played so well for the first 26 minutes and had victory within its grasp. That made the loss even more bitter. Summit shot only 33% from the field and sank only 5 of 11 free throws. James Johnson led the Summit scoring with 13 points and Chris Kehoe had 8 rebounds.
