Summit started like they were going to blow Westfield away. The Hilltoppers rushed to a 15-3 lead behind an 11 point burst by James Johnson and some strong defense. A three pointer by Westfield ended the quarter 15-6. Unfortunately, Summit fell into a funk and was held scoreless for the first 7 minutes of the 2nd quarter while Westfield ran up 15 points. A late basket by Johnson was all Summit could muster and the half ended with Westfield on top 23-17.
Summit battled back in the 3rd and tied the score at 30 shortly before the end of the quarter. Josh Sussman came alive with 6 points and Johnson added 8 more to his eventual game high total of 25. The 4th quarter began 37-34, Westfield. Summit repeatedly closed the gap to a single point, led by Chris Kehoe's 8 points. However, Summit could never close the gap as Westfield was nearly flawless from the foul line, sinking 7 of their 8 free throw attempts.
Free throw shooting again played a significant role. Summit made only 1 of 6 tries while Westfield connected on 16 of 18. Travis Marchell had 9 rebounds.
