In a game closer than the final score indicated, the Summit Varsity Lady Hilltoppers won a must game, 34-27. With the pressure of a state tournament berth riding on the outcome of the fourth quarter, the varsity put together a terrific finish, thereby guaranteeing a playoff appearance for the first time since the 2001-2002 season. The first quarter continued the offensive doldrums that carried over from the previous game, with Summit taking a precarious13-11 lead at the half. The third quarter started out rough for the girls, as they were whistled for 9 fouls in the quarter, 7 of them in the first three minutes. With Danielle Scott and Jamie Osmulski on the bench with three fouls each, senior Renee Freeden responded, snaring some key rebounds on both boards and scoring 4 late points to stake Summit to a 21-19 lead. Defensively the Hilltoppers worked hard all game, and some great defensive work by Katelyn Allocco, Megan Osmulski, Melissa Scott, with three key steals, and Jenna Wilson helped to keep Dover off the board. The nail biting fourth quarter saw Danielle Scott and Jamie Osmulski reenter the game, and the team finally began to gel at just the right time. Putting together her best quarter of the season, freshman Osmulski had four steals in the quarter that led to her scoring 5 critical points. Danielle Scott, working hard on both ends for 11 rebounds, scored 6 in the quarter, hitting on 4 pressure packed free throws in a row to extend the lead. Katelyn Allocco then effectively stalled out the last 90 seconds with some deft ball handling. Scott finished with a double-double, scoring a team high 13 points to go with her 11 boards.

JV Game

Won 55-8 The JV scored their largest victory margin of the year, a tough man to man defense in the first half led summit to an easy 55-8 victory over at outgunned Dover squad. Getting balanced scoring from all five starters, Summit raced out to a 14-2 first quarter lead on some nice buckets by Danielle Allocco and Candy Marchell. The second quarters scoring came on some nice inside work by Abby Mell, who finished with 4 points and 7 rebounds, some nice drives by Colleen Laughlin, who finished with a game high 12 points, and some beautiful outside shooting from Allocco. In the third quarter, Shannon Murphy came out on fire, hitting on her first 4 shots and grabbing three rebounds. But driving hard to the hoop, Murphy had her legs cut out from underneath and took a nasty fall onto the hardwood. A concerned Summit team watched as the trainer worked on her and we were all relieved when she was able to walk to the bench on her own steam The rest of the game was a clinic by the JV, who got some nice assist work by Deanna Nelson and some nice defensive work from Dana Kwitnicki, who had three steals. Alex Reid had an all around solid game and finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards.
