Lost 37-43 The Summit Varsity Lady Hilltoppers staged a remarkable fourth quarter comeback against a seasoned GL squad only to fall short at the end 43-37. Summit started out ice cold in the first quarter as the girls tried to figure out the GL 2-3 zone, but quickly fell behind 12-3. Inserting Melissa Scott and Jenna Wilson in the line up in the second quarter seemed to help, and Scott’s quick 6 points and Wilson’s all around floor leadership helped narrow the gap at half time to 16-11. Summit started out the third quarter well, with Katelyn Allocco and Renee Freeden working hard to effectively break GL’s diamond zone press, but some loose defense left their opponents open for jumpers, and GL buried 7 of them for a commanding 12 point lead at the end of the quarter. The lead was extended to 36-22 with half the quarter over, and then the Lady Hilltoppers showed the crowd what they were made of. Flying all over the floor, pressing from end to end, Summit staged an incredible 12-0 run, led by Megan Osmulski’s 8 fourth quarter points and Danielle Scott’s 5, and brought the game to 36-34 with just over a minute left. After another GL jumper, a steal by Jamie Osmulski and a lay up kept the gap at 2. Another change of possession forced by Danielle Allocco got Summit the ball again, but this time Summit failed to score and was forced to foul, and GL’s outstanding point guard swished 5 free throws to ice the game. The gritty Summit team never gave up, firing a shot as the buzzer sounded.
