The Lady Hilltoppers opened their 2005-6 campaign with a loss at Home versus Morris Hills. The game was virtually over in the first quarter as Morris Hills raced to a 24-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, with deadly shooting from the outside and the foul line. But from then on Summit had the better of play as the women clamped down defensively and began chipping away at the lead. Jamie Osmulski and Katelyn Allocco withstood a lot of defensive pressure in the backcourt to get the ball to Summit's two twin towers, Renee Freeden and Danielle Scott. Good defensive work by Melissa Scott and Megan Osmulski kept Summit in the game as they began their second half comeback. Scoring from the inside, Freeden had 14 points and D. Scott had 12 for the game. Some clutch outside shooting by M. Osmulski brought the Hilltoppers to a 4 point deficit, but some clutch foul shooting by Morris Hills at the end sealed the game. The story of the game was the tremendous effort the women exhibited after the first quarter jitters were over, and the great disparity at the foul line. Morris Hills was held to just 9 field goals, but shot 36 times from the foul line, converting on 21. That was the difference, as the Lady Hilltoppers were whistled for 27 fouls.

JV Result

The JV Lady Hilltoppers opened up their season on a successful note with a come from behind 30-26 win over Morris Hills in Summit. The girls trailed for most of the first three quarters as Morris Hills had a speedy guard and sharp shooting forward, who produced most of their offense. Summit kept in the game with some timely offensive rebounding by Candy Marshall, and some great hustle by Colleen Laughlin. In the second half, Morris Hills opened with a trapping zone that was broken effectively by the guard tandem of Danielle Allocco and Jenna Wilson. Summit opened up the fourth quarter trailing by one, but a quick basket by Alex Reid on a baseline jumper got Summit the lead, and two more buckets by Reid extended Summit’s lead to 5. Morris Hills closed the gap until a basket by Wilson and a clutch lay up by Marshall opened up a two-point lead, and two free throws by Reid with 21 seconds left iced the game. Summit was supported the whole game by the great rebounding and clutch defensive play of Shannon Murphy, Deanna Nelson and Abby Mell
