In a carbon copy of their first game this season, the Lady Hilltoppers lost a disappointing game to Morris Hills 52-55. Just like in that first game, Morris Hills came out on fire and took all of the play to the Varsity, who quickly fell behind 16-2, as MH scored on many open outside shots and Summit turned the ball over numerous times. A good solid 10-2 run at the end of the quarter on some key scores by Jamie Osmulski and Katelyn Allocco cut the deficit to 18-12 to start the second period. In this quarter a different Summit team came to play defense, challenging every shot, and Danielle Scott, who had another monster game, took over the offense, scoring 13 points in the quarter to give Summit a 25-24 halftime lead. A defensive battle in the third quarter ensued, and some nice work by Nicky Nelson and Megan Osmulski kept Summit close when Danielle Scott had foul trouble. In a nail biter of a fourth quarter, Summit forged a 48-45 lead on some great inside scoring from Renee Freeden, who had 11 points, and Scott. But under relentless zone trap pressure from MH, Summit kept turning the ball over and left MH with some open outside shots which they knocked down to take a 1 point lead. Summit was forced to foul, and MH hit their free throws at the end to hold on to the victory. The loss overshadowed another career performance by Danielle Scott, who had 31 points and 10 rebounds in a terrific effort in defeat.

JV Game

Won 47-15 In an impressive effort that shows how far the JV has come as a team, the Summit JV Lady Hilltoppers scored an overpowering 47-15 defeat of a Morris Hills team that they had only beaten by 4 in game one of the season. Defense again was the catalyst for the scoring, as Summit threw all sorts of defensive formations at MH; zone presses, man to man, and 2-3 zones were all used effectively to confuse a worthy opponent. Summit had 22 steals in the game, many resulting in fast break lay ups for the JV. Alex Reid was the beneficiary of many of the MH defensive lapses, scoring 17 points and just missing a double-double with 9 steals. Colleen Laughlin again displayed a great shooting touch from the outside with 12 points, and Abby Mell had another great game underneath the hoop with 8 rebounds. Deanna Nelson had a solid game on defense, creating 4 steals, grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing for 3 assists. Danielle Allocco was all over the court, scoring 9, grabbing an impressive 5 rebounds, and handing out 3 assists. Another all around solid game was turned in by Shannon Murphy, who had 7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals, and shutting down all of MH’s inside game. The JV showed great improvement and balance form the first game, and the 32 point victory margin was their second highest of the year.
