In another game with wild swings in momentum, the Varsity Lady Hilltoppers found themselves on the right end of the pendulum and fought to a hard earned 58-50 victory over Parsippany Hills. While the game had huge ebbs and flows, in the end the girls got balanced scoring from all five starters for the first time this year to lead them to victory. The first 10 seconds started ominously for the Hilltoppers when Danielle Scott went up for a rebound and came down with a jammed finger on her shooting hand. With Scott going immediately to the bench for attention, it was up to the players to rise to the occasion. Displaying a speed and tenacity that they haven’t shown for a while, the varsity raced up and down the court, pressing all over and fast breaking, and soared to a 17-6 first quarter lead. But just as soon as the second quarter started, things seem to move in reverse, as the offense slowed down and the defense gave Par Hills too much room to shoot. Par Hills rallied to a 17-6 scoring advantage in their second quarter and went into half tied at 23 all. Summit came out on fire in the third quarter, and no one was hotter than Megan Osmulski, who hit two consecutive three pointers to open the lead up. Her sister Jamie then provided the bulk of the scoring, with some amazing drives that she converted while being pummeled to the hardwood. She had 7 in the quarter and a season high 13 for the game, with 3 rebounds and 4 assists, and Summit ended the quarter with what looked like a comfortable 41-30 third quarter lead. The fourth quarter saw Par Hills come back again with some amazing shooting, especially from their talented freshman point guard, and before they knew it Par Hills had crept back to 43-39 with plenty of time left. But some key points by Katelyn Allocco, who finished with 7 points and 5 assists, and Renee Freeden, who finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, opened the lead again, and some clutch free throw shooting as the game wound down by Melissa Scott, Megan Osmulski, and Danielle Scott, who finished with a game high 15 points, sealed the victory for Summit.

JV Game

Won 63-22 In another dominating performance as they gear up for their toughest stretch this season, the JV Lady Hilltoppers scored a resounding 63-22 victory against a game Parsippany Hills team. In what is becoming a terrific pattern, Colleen Laughlin again led the team with some great outside shooting, hitting on 8 for 12 shots and scoring a season high 19 points. If Colleen didn’t score, then Candy Marchell was there to grab the rebound and score on the put back, and she finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds. The game was over by the first half, as the JV’s stifling man to man defense limited Par Hills to few opportunities, and Alex Reid, who finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Danielle Allocco, who finished with 8 points and 3 assists, picked up the scoring pace. The second half was also fun to watch, as Abby Mell, who finished with 6 points and 8 rebounds, played great all over the floor; bringing the ball up on fast breaks, helping to break the press, and snaring some ferocious rebounds. In the fourth quarter, Deanna Nelson took over, swishing two great jumpers and contributing 3 assists and 3 steals to go along with her 6 points for the game. The final quarter was also exciting as the JV’s newest additions played a great role in finishing the game. Dana Kwitnicki hit two terrific jumpers and had 2 rebounds and two assists. Freshman Alison Snyder and Claire Cummins worked a number of give and go’s and just missed scoring their first JV points.
