38-55) Summit’s Lady Hilltoppers traveled to Rahway for a first round game against Plainfield in the UCT. Plainfield came out running and their slashing drives led to many lay-ups and they raced to an early lead. With Summit trailing by 12, Danielle Scott and Megan Osmulski fought back to closed the gap. Showing a lot of grit and determination, the Hilltoppers came out strong in the third quarter, led by some fantastic playing by Megan Osmulski, who hit two 3’s and had 9 in the quarter. But Plainfield’s fast break and aggressive defense caused many turnovers that they converted to bring the third quarter lead to 10. Some nice fourth quarter work by Jenna Wilson, who had 4 points, and Lauren Magness, Nicki Nelson, Jess Tauber and Alethia Martinez kept the game close till the end.

JV UCT Game with Brearley

Won 55-7 Taking advantage of their number 1 seed, the JV Lady Hilltoppers overpowered Brearley in Summit today. A dominating start led to a 20-0 first quarter lead, as the inside work of Candy Marchell, with 10 points, Shannon Murphy with 10, and Abby Mell with 4 ruled the boards and scored easily in the paint. The rest of the game saw the JV throttle back and work the offense, and some nice plays set up by Colleen Laughlin, with 6 points, Danielle Allocco, with 4, and Deanna Nelson, with 4, extended the lead to 35-3 at half. The second half was not much different, as the JV settled into a 2-3 zone and let Brearley fire up three’s at will. Alex Reid seemed to be in the right position for those rebounds, and she finished with 9 boards to go along with a game high 13 points. The fourth quarter saw some good ball handling by Dana Kwitnicki and Alison Snyder, who each contributed a bucket, to the final outcome. The next county game will be against the winner of the Scotch Plains-Union match.
