In a much needed victory, The Lady Hilltoppers scored a key victory over Weequahic 49-32. The tone of the game was set in the first minute as Megan Osmulski hit two three pointers after some nice ball work by the varsity got her free. Working hard on defense, Jamie Osmulski created two turnovers and had a steal, and used her speed to score 6 in the period. Summits 18-6 first quarter lead was stretched to 28-12 at half, as Renee Freeden, who finished with 12 points and 5 rebounds, kept Weequahic at bay with her inside scoring. But as is their pattern, Summit lost some defensive focus and forgot their offense in a tough third quarter. Weequahic ran off a very fast 12 points to close the lead to 35-30 and the crowd started to get nervous. But some nice work by freshmen Melissa Scott and Jenna Wilson in the backcourt settled the team, and some nice plays by Katelyn Allocco and Danielle Scott in the quarter sealed the victory as the varsity pulled away. Scott, who had 17 points today, finished the 7-day stretch with 73 points in an awesome display of basketball talent.

JV Game

Won 48-22 In another resounding victory, the JV Lady Hilltoppers scored an impressive 48-22 victory against Weequahic. The first quarter looked like it was going to be a close game. With six players scoring in the quarter, the JV took a 17-12 lead, scoring from all angles while Weequahic relied on drives to the hoop. At this point the JV clamped down on defense, and the game took a radical change. With their drives stopped, Weequahic was forced to throw up 3 pointers, and the rebounding duo of Abby Mell, who had 5 boards, and Candy Marchell with 6, limited them to one shot. Fast breaks off the rebounds were led by Colleen Laughlin, who totaled 8 points, and Alex Reid, who had three assists and three steals. The JV took a 38-22 lead into the fourth quarter, and for the fourth time this year limited the opponent to no points in the quarter. Deanna Nelson’s physical defensive play against the driving guards of Weequahic, preventing them from reaching the bucket, was a key to the defensive effort, and Danielle Allocco was able to take advantage of their turnovers and convert it into 11 points for a game high. Crashing the offensive boards for numerous follow up shots was Shannon Murphy, who finished with a game high of 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. The JV got a great game from their backcourt of Allocco, Reid, Laughlin, and Nelson, who against a tough press was able to break it and kept their turnovers to fewer than ten for a solid all around effort. The fourth quarter offense was provided by Abby Mell, who had her season high 8 points, 6 in the fourth quarter alone.
