JV Result

Won 43-15 In a dominant performance with a shortened roster, the JV Lady Hilltoppers improved their record to 3-0 with a 43-15 dismantling of a solid West Essex squad. The JV played their best defense in the first three quarters, holding West Essex to just 7 total points, with a swarming, pressing 2-2-1 zone, a stifling man to man, and a solid 2-3 zone defense that completely shut down West Essex. Real solid board work by Abby Mell who led the team in rebounds, and Candy Marchell limited the opponent to one shot if they got past the guard tandem of Deanna Nelson, Danielle Allocco and Alex Reid who created numerous turnovers in the backcourt. Nelson was particularly impressive, diving for loose balls, cutting off passing lanes and keying multiple fast breaks. This was also a breakout game offensively for Colleen Laughlin, who scored 12 points on terrific shooting, and Shannon Murphy, who put together a total package of rebounds, steals and points, and who created a new offensive weapon with some great length of the court passes to break the West Essex press. Reid scored 13 points, many off of passes from Murphy and Allocco on the break, and Mell had 8 rebounds to lead the stat department.
