What a difference a day makes. Matt Carbone, who pitched so beautifully against GL, had trouble finding the strike zone and got tagged for 8 runs on only 2 hits. Kevin McAvey got the last out of the 1st inning but then ran into control problems himself and gave up 6 more runs before being replaced by Tim Donnally with 2 outs in the 2nd inning. After an infield error the inning ended with Summit down 14-0 on 7 hits, 6 walks, 2 hit batters, some questionable decisions on fielder's choices, and one error.

Now for the good news. Donnally pitched the final 4 1/3 innings of the game without giving up a run and allowing only 3 hits. Eddie Hagan saw his first action of the season at 3rd base and, in addition to solid defense, went 2 for 3 with a double and a single. Summit, facing a mercy ruling, battled back with 5 runs in the 3rd inning on hits by by Hagan, Marc Shehata, and Kevin Lackaye as well as the help of some errors by Chatham. Summit's final run resulted when Eric Della Piazza and Sam Rose got on via errors and Fred Westphalen's single drove in a run.
