This was "pack the Stands" day at memorial Field and those who turned out were treated to a very exciting game. Summit fell behind 8-3 going into the bottom of 5th. Summit rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th and added 2 more runs in the 6th to pull to within 1 run. Summit loaded the bases with 2 out in the last of the 7th and the Summit fans were on the edge of their seats. However, Chatham's pitcher rose to the occasion and struck out Summit final batter in three pitches.

Summit's first run came in the 1st inning. Kevin Lackaye and Evan Chang singled and Lackaye scored on an error by the 3rd baseman. After Chatham scored 5 3rd inning runs off starter Tim Donnally, Summit came back with 2 of their own. Tim Spangler led off with a double and Sam Rose tripled to drive in one run. Rose scored on Dan Weber's infield out. Chatham came right back 2 runs of their own and the 4th inning ended with Chatham up 7-3. Chatham added their 8th run in the 5th.

Summit closed the gap to 8-5 in the bottom of the 5th. A single by Spangler, a double by Rose and a single by Fred Westphalen yielded the 2 runs. In the 6th Summit picked up another pair of runs. After 1 out, Chang was walked and Eric Della Piazza doubled to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. A sacrifice fly by Spangler scored Chang. Rose singled and another single by Westphalen drove in Della Piazza.

Sam Rose went 3 for 4 and had a mini-cycle, a single, a double and a triple. Kevin Lackaye came on in relief with no outs and pitches 3 nice inning , retiring the last 7 batters in order. The Achilles heal for Summit was that they left 13 runners stranded on base. Chatham was more efficient as they left only 3 runner on base.
