Summit came within 1 out of a victory, but a walkoff home run by Madison snatched the victory from Summit's hands. Summit scored 3 run in the top of the 1st inning on 3 walks and singles by Kevin Lackaye and Fred Westphalen. Madison responded with a run in the bottom of the 1st. The score remained 3-1 until the the 5th inning.

Summit had a big scoring opportunity in the 3rd. Eric Della Piazza led off by drawing a walk. Lackaye singled and Sam Rose walked to load the bases with no outs. Della Piazza was forced at home on a ground ball. The bases were still loaded, but now with one out. Summit tried a suicide squeeze, but the batter failed to get the bunt down and the runner was out. Eddie Hagan was walked to reload the bases, but a strikeout ended the threat. Three base on balls and a single, but nothing to show for it.

Madison scored 3 runs in the 5th off 3 singles and a hit batter. So the score stood 4-3 going to the 6th. Matt Carbone came on in relief for the 6th inning. He put down Madison 1-2-3, with 2 strikeouts.

Evan Chang started the Summit 7th with a resounding double. After one out , Lackaye hit a ground ball the went right between the legs of the Madison 1st baseman. The result was runners on 1st and 3rd. Lackaye stole 2nd to get both runners in scoring position. Sam Rose stroked a deep single that scored Lackaye and Chang and gave Summit a 5-4 lead. Kevin McAvey came in to pitch the 7th. The first batter popped up to Shehata and the 2nd batter flyed out to Della Piazza. One more out to go. The next batter hit a sharp ground ball in gap between 1st and 2nd. That led to one of the best infielder defensive plays in years. Marc Shehata went 15 feet onto the grass in the gap to snag the ball. He whirled around, off balance, and threw a rope to 1st base that arrived at there simultaneously with the runner. It could have been called either way, but they called the runner safe. The next Madison batter slammed a huge home run to left field, ending the game.
